Funds raised for Giving Tuesday will go to support Flex Assistance.
What’s Flex Assistance, you ask? Flex Assistance covers those small, but equally life-changing survivor needs that fall outside the usual parameters of large-scale funders. You make this funding possible.
Here’s a great example of Flex Assistance at work:
A survivor arrives at the CORA safe house after leaving their abuser. They have their children and car and a few suitcases. However, their abuser controls the finances, so they have no access to money of any kind.
The survivor lets CORA staff know that they have a family member in, for example, San Diego that they can stay with while they get their feet back under them. They have a car and a place to go, but they don’t have the money for gas.
Enter Flex Assistance! With only $100 for gas money, the survivor is able to drive south and move in with family. Not only does this have the benefit of getting the survivor into a stable, caring household to begin the healing and rebuilding process, it also allows space to remain open in the safe house for another survivor escaping abuse.
All this for only $100! It’s a small amount with huge benefits for a survivor escaping domestic violence. And since this type of assistance is overlooked by giant funders, it’s important that individual donations like you are there to help transform these lives.
